A tentative agreement on a state budget framework that would reduce the spending level in the General Fund to $27.15 billion has been reached. The work on this plan will continue for the next several days as the funding levels are finalized. The final vote on a budget could take place early next week. This framework does reduce spending and does not raise taxes.

House Bill 40, the original Castle Doctrine legislation allowing citizens to defend themselves and families while in their homes or occupied vehicles, was passed by the Senate today and will now go to Gov. Tom Corbett, who has pledged to sign the bill into law, said Rep. Scott Perry (R-York/Cumberland), author of the legislation.

As a result of a compromise reached between House and Senate versions of legislation reforming the Pennsylvania Unemployment Compensation System, Senate Bill 1030 was passed by the House, and includes some portions of the original House bill sponsored by Rep. Scott Perry (R-York/Cumberland). The reform effort is needed as Pennsylvania has borrowed nearly $4 billion to fund the system and a sizeable deficit remains.

I have always had a great deal of respect for the editorial capability of newspapers to comment on the issues of the day, and I fully support the right of an individual newspaper to disagree with a position I happen to have. However, I must take issue with the York Daily Record editorial of June 11 titled “Rep. Scott Perry’s Anti-Government Rhetoric Alarming.”
