Commuter Services Program Helps Regional Employers and Commuters
Our region is extremely fortunate to have Commuter Services of South Central Pennsylvania, which has free services to help commuters save money by finding ways to work other than driving alone.
Free services also are targeted to employers to show them several ways that they can help recruit and retain workers, making our local economy even stronger. Commuter Services will come to the workplace to talk to employers about what would meet their specific needs.
Please check out the website at www.PaCommuterServices.com or call toll-free 1-866-579-RIDE for information. Employers and commuters can learn about options including transit, carpools, vanpools, telecommuting, special work shifts, biking or walking.
On-line there is a calculator to show how much your commute costs now and a confidential, ride matching database with thousands of local commuters seeking people to share rides to work. Commuter Services also reimburses commuters using options for rides home in case of family emergencies.
Services are free because they are underwritten with federal Congestion Mitigation & Air Quality funds. The program is open to employers and the more than 800,000 commuters in Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, Lancaster, Lebanon, Perry and York counties.
Commuter Services is unique in the Northeast, if not the nation, because it is a multi-county approach that brings business, county planning professionals and transit agencies to the table to find better ways to reduce traffic congestion and vehicle emissions. I am proud that we can provide such a service to our constituents, especially as I am aware that high gasoline costs are affecting many family budgets.
